How to Troubleshoot Your Air Conditioner
When the Bakersfield sun is blazing, a malfunctioning air conditioner is more than an inconvenience—it’s an emergency. Before you panic, there are a few simple troubleshooting steps you can take that might solve the problem. At Gundlach’s, we want to help you stay cool and comfortable. If these tips don’t work, don’t hesitate to contact our expert team for fast, reliable AC repair in Bakersfield!
Check Your Thermostat Settings
It may sound obvious, but the thermostat is often the culprit. First, ensure it’s set to “cool” and the temperature is set several degrees lower than the current room temperature. Check that the fan is set to “auto,” not “on,” which runs the fan constantly even when the air isn’t being cooled.
Inspect the Air Filter
A dirty or clogged air filter is one of the most common causes of AC failure. A blocked filter restricts airflow, which can cause your system’s evaporator coils to freeze over and stop cooling your home. Check your filter and if it’s visibly dirty, replace it.
Look at Your Circuit Breakers
Your air conditioning system has both an indoor and an outdoor unit, and each is typically on a different circuit breaker. Head to your electrical panel and check to see if the breakers for your HVAC system have tripped. If one is in the “off” or middle position, flip it firmly back to the “on” position.
Clear the Outdoor Unit
Your outdoor condenser unit needs plenty of space to work properly. Go outside and inspect it for any debris. Remove any leaves, grass clippings, or dirt that may have accumulated around the unit. Also, ensure there’s at least two feet of clear space around the entire condenser to allow for proper airflow.
If you’ve run through these steps and your home still isn’t cooling down, it’s time to call in the pros. For expert AC diagnostics and repair, trust the experienced team at Gundlach’s to get your system back up and running. Contact us today to schedule your service in the Bakersfield area!
